810 million years ago, this crater was formed with its 4400 yard (4000 m) high rim wall and the slightly visible 1300 yard (1200 m) high central mountain. The summit may be in seen binoculars, but not its tripartite division. The ray system emanating from Copernicus can be traced over more than 186 miles (300 km), while the crater itself has a diameter of 58 miles (93 km).
