What we see today on the southern shore of Mare Nectaris as a 77 mile (124 km) wide bay was once an independent crater. It was flooded with lava when Mare Nectaris was formed. Only a few small hills remain of its former central mountain. The lava that covers the crater floor is probably about 1100 yards (1000 m) thick.
