Eratosthenes is a striking 36 mile (58 km) diameter crater between Copernicus and the Apennines mountains. It is located between two mountain chains that meet at right angles to each other in the north-west of the crater. The central peak is only half as high as the impressive 2200 yard (2000 m) high crater walls that surround it.
