Even during the best time of observation, Mars remains only a reddish spot in binoculars. Even a good amateur telescope shows only a few lighter and darker regions on our neighboring planet. The impressive images of the planet taken with amateur equipment are the results of several hundreds of images that were combined and then edited on the computer. In the telescope, the structures are very inconspicuous.
